CODE OF CONDUCT

The Respite invites all visitors or retreatants to feel safe and comforted on the land - to be yourself, to do and act as you long to, and enjoy the quiet, healing, restorative properties of the forest.  Please be respectful of farmers, campers, or Roundhouse guests who may be co-inhabiting on the land.

We ask that you honor the intention of the Respite’s guiding values and ethos. You can find those here

We celebrate the differences among all our visitors and retreatants and have zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment based on sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, race, ability, faith, religion, body size, age, or mental health.

The founder and current steward  of the Respite, Kristen Cox, who resides in the Steward’s cabin is also accountable to ensuring this place is a peaceful, harmonious and safe haven for all who come (See History for how).

At the Respite, we believe that building consent culture involves celebrating human diversity, where we accept and embrace difference (https://consentculture.com/). Consent means that a person voluntarily and willfully agrees in response to another person's proposition. The person who consents must possess sufficient mental capacity. Consent also requires the absence of coercion, fraud or error.

Consent Culture is a movement for social change.

Consent is transformative.

Consent is a human right.

Consent shifts our culture away from entitlement and privilege, towards empathy and kindness.

Consent is the foundation for building a better world.

If you are a participant in a retreat held at the Respite, we expect you to lift up our consent culture at the Respite and ask that you abide by zero tolerance where no form of racism, sexism, ableism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, ageism, xenophobia, or antisemitism will be tolerated.

If you or anyone who comes to the land experiences uncomfortability or a harassment-related concern, please fill out this form which will be directed to a repair faciltator, independent of Cox as Steward, who will follow an accountability process to address the incident(s) which will be taken seriously and handled with utmost community care.

Thank You.
